The location and setup of this property was perfect for our children, grandchildren and ourselves. So much room and the view was phenomenal! Owners were great to work with- responsive to all inquiries. I would highly recommend!
Recently my family and I stayed at shades of summer and it was wonderful. We had 12 adults & 2 children & the house was perfect for us. The owners were wonderful with anything I contacted them about. Joanna especially considerate to us and very quick to respond. Close walk to the beach and plenty to do and see in town and nearby. Able to walk to grocery store and souvenir shop from the house. Seeing the wild horses on the beach & ghost crab hunting @ night with the children were two of my favorites . Only recommendation would be if you plan to go out to dinner, plan ahead & make reservations before you go. Otherwise very long waiting lines. Great house and I was so happy to be able to spend time there with my family.
Shades of summer was the perfect spot for our large family of 14. We had an extensive range of ages – 20 months – 85 years old and everyone was comfortable and happy. Communication with the hosts was easy and fast. I would definitely recommend the property looking for a fun family vacation!
Such a beautiful and peaceful property. This was our second year in a row staying here, and I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else! The house is clean and up to date. It is close to the beach and to shops. We loved our week here!
We had a wonderful time this week at Shades of Summer! The layout of the house is perfect for big families to spread out and relax. The owners responded quickly to any questions we had and were incredibly helpful. The location is amazing, so close to a beautiful uncrowded beach. Highly recommend this property!!
Our family had the best time at this property that was exactly as advertised. The interior is beautifully decorated in a beach theme making for a very relaxing stay. The surrounding neighborhood was quiet and we never felt the beach was ever crowded. This house really is a plus stay for a great family beach get-a-way.
Everything you would hope to find in a beach house. Clean, well stocked, with an easy walk to the beach.
Ideal location, walked to the beach every day, across the street from groceries and wild horse tour, Duck Donuts. The house was very clean amd had everything we needed. Pots and pans, beach chairs, puzzles and games, very nice furniture and comforts in every room!
We are on are way home from a great week in OBX staying here. The house was great for our family of ten; plenty of space. It was a short walk to the beach. The hot tub was nicely shaded by the upper deck. The owners were super helpful and responded quickly when we had questions before and during the stay.
Shades of Summer was the perfect house for our family vacation! The location was great and convenient to the beach, grocery store, shopping, and restaurants. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. Joanna kept us well informed and was readily available to answer any questions we had before and during our stay!

This house had all the conveniences that you need and was especially clean. The beds were very comfortable and the set up was nice. It was a close walk to the beach and for ice cream in the evenings. I can’t think of one thing we needed that wasn’t there. Perfect for our family of 12!
We would strongly recommend this host and rental! Close to the beach and plenty of room for a large extended family vacation! Check in was self check-in and was quick and easy! The Host texted when check in was available and it was well before check in time. The house had many items to use during our stay. The kitchen was fully stocked and had many items beyond the standard! Wonderful trip and Wonderful memories!! We would definitely recommend!! Thank you to our hosts you were exceptional!!
Wonderful property. So well maintained. Beautifully appointed. Wonderfully located. Our family thoroughly enjoyed staying at shades of summer. We especially appreciated the fact that there were ample dishes, cooking utensils, and tableware. Can’t think of anything we needed that was not provided in that kitchen! It was so wonderful to be able to watch the sun rise from the back porch each morning as it came up over the ocean. Love the fact that we were walking distance to a really great Harris Teeter, and to a fun ice cream store. Also loved having a traffic signal where you come out of the neighborhood so that we had no problems getting out when it was time to go somewhere. Would love to come back.
